The Asus VivoBook E403SA-US21 has enough features and performance to shine as an above-average entry among budget desktop-replacement laptops. It boasts class-leading battery life, good build quality and design, a decent amount of quick storage space, and a full HD screen that's easy on the eyes. The larger Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Series remains our Editors' Choice award, however, for having much better performance, more memory, a touch screen, and a wide, expansive keyboard with numeric keypad for doing real work, all while coming in at a lower price. That said, if portability is more important to you than power, keep the VivoBook on your short list.

Unlike many other low-cost notebooks, this Asus model does not subsidize its existence with a boatload of bloatware. In fact, other than Asus’ own utilities, the typical Windows 10 Home apps and offers, and a trial for Microsoft Office 365, there’s no pre-installed software at all.

Unlike a lot of 14-inch budget Windows 10 machines, the Asus VivoBook E403SA packs a full-HD (1920 x 1080) display, a premium lightweight chassis and a battery that lasts more than a full workday. The only strikes against this system are an underside that runs a little hot and speakers that require adjustment for the best sound.

With the lackluster multitasking and dim display, it's hard to recommend the $200 VivoBook E402SA despite the low price. The laptop isn't all bad, as it packs a comfortable keyboard and surprisingly powerful speakers. If you're willing to spend more, buy the $399 Asus VivoBook E403SA, which offers better, Pentium-class performance, a full-HD display and almost 2 hours of additional battery life.

The L403 is a solid, budget 14-inch laptop, especially given its £300 price. A Full HD screen and solid chassis make it a decent choice. However, for £50 more you can grab the Acer Swift 1, which comes in lighter, smaller and offers even better build quality along with a fingerprint reader. However, its more compact size does also mean it offers less in terms of the roominess provided by the L403’s 14-inch chassis.

The VivoBook E403NA is a great value, with solid performance, good build quality, a full-HD display and over 8 hours of endurance. It's unfortunate, however, that the E403NA is a couple of steps behind its now-discontinued predecessor, with an hour less of battery life, a USB-C port that doesn't charge the laptop and an oddly slippery touchpad.

Asus:

En del nyare spel kan spelas med de här grafikkorten, men bara om de är mindre krävande. De har ändå tillräcklig kapacitet för kontorsbruk och film (möjligen högupplöst). Är grafikkretsen dessutom integrerad kan batteritiden vara utmärkt.

Intel HD Graphics (Braswell): Integrerad GPU i Intel Braswell-serien (Celeron- och Pentium-processorer). Baserad på Broadwellarkitekturen (Intel Gen8) med stöd för DirectX 11.2. Beroende på processorn har grafikdelen 12 eller 16 shaders och varierande klockfrekvens.
