We have our quibbles about the new Porsche Design Acer Book RS: The screen ratio is starting to look outdated, the speakers are so-so, and the touchpad occasionally goes glitchy. But the Book RS has it where it counts when it comes to speed, design, portability and price, making it one of the most attractive laptops now available at this price point.

The Porsche name may be alluring to some, or you may just like the look, but it’s also difficult to point to one thing that would make you choose this machine definitively over the other top options. The lid is indeed unique, but it doesn’t feel elite-level premium, so that alone won’t separate it from the pack for most, and the rest of the machine is a bit plain. The super-compact and premium designs of the Editors’ Choice-winning Dell XPS 13, Razer Book 13, and Apple MacBook Air are very attractive at the 13-inch screen size, and the 14-inch Lenovo Yoga 9i offers convertibility. Still, if you personally prefer the look of the Porsche Design Acer Book RS, go for it: We can endorse it as a good alternative in a very tough field.

While the Porsche Design Acer Book RS certainly looks unique and looks the part of a high-octane laptop, it sadly doesn’t have the performance that I was expecting. Judged as a regular Evo-certified Intel-powered ultra-portable, the Porsche Design Acer Book RS has enough performance under the hood to satisfy most people. But it’s not a regular ultraportable. Its performance doesn’t really do justice to the name attached to the lid, and you’re paying for a hefty premium to lug around a laptop with Porsche Design’s name attached on the front.

For better or worse, the Porsche Design Acer Book RS is a unique laptop. Of course, great performance, stellar endurance and a comfortable keyboard push it along. However, it costs a pretty penny for a not-so-pretty design. Plus, the display and speakers could certainly be better. Our advice? Save a few bucks and get the Yoga 9i. You’ll get a Core i7 CPU, double the RAM and a great speaker packed into a seamless 2-in-1 chassis. Or if design matters most, get the Spectre x360 14, which does luxury better than this Porsche. However, if you actually like the Porsche Design Acer Book RS’s design, it does have some positive aspects, especially its 13+ hour long battery life.

Acer makes some of the best inexpensive laptops you'll find, as well as interesting premium models that are more about design than being a good bargain. With the name Porsche Design stamped on the lid of this one, I'm guessing you can figure out which group this falls into. Built from carbon fiber and magnesium with diamond-cut edges, the Acer Book RS certainly makes an impression and is something different -- at least on the outside.

Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.
