Recension av HP Omen 17 (2022) - Snyggt hölje och hårdvara med hög potential

Lovande styrka kan man inte riktigt säga om HP Omen 17. Den bärbara speldatorn utnyttjar sin potential fullt ut när det gäller TDP och TGP för Intel Core i7 12700H och Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. Men gamers kan också göra saker annorlunda: om energisparinställningarna är korrekt inställda blir den energislukande gamern en ödmjuk, lammliknande laptop med en användbar batteritid.

I flera år har HP framgångsrikt marknadsfört Omen-serien som starka bärbara speldatorer med en tilltalande design och utmärkt byggkvalitet. Tillverkaren tar dock också ut ganska höga priser. Köparna måste för närvarande betala över 2 000 euro (~ 2000 US-dollar) för den aktuella Omen 17.

Ett urval av starka hårdvarukomponenter i HP Omen 17 säkerställer mycket starka prestanda i processorns riktmärken. I 2022 års version av den bärbara speldatorn används nu enIntel Core i7-12700Hfrån den senaste processorgenerationen, som åtföljs av 16 GB DDR5 RAM och en 1 TB NVMe SSD från Western Digital. Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Tii vårt andra granskningsprov presterar också bra. Vårt första recensionsexemplar fick bytas ut av HP på grund av ett fel på grafikkortet. På det hela taget presterar 17-tums Omen ofta bättre än de starka HP Omen 16med samma hårdvara.

Andra jämförbara gamers är MSI Vector GP76 12UGS, Asus TUF Gaming F17 och den betydligt billigare Acer Nitro 5 med AMD-processor.

Hölje - Oförändrad utformning

HP Omen har ett hölje av svart plast och svartmålad metall. Omen-logotypen på displaylocket är den enda iögonfallande färgpunkten. I övrigt har den bärbara datorns design hållits enkel. Raka linjer med få dekorationer utgör utsidan av den bärbara gamingdatorn. Ingenting har förändrats i designen sedan förra året. Till och med de annars typiska stora öppningarna för fläktarna är diskreta här. HP lyckas få den bärbara datorn att se mycket mindre stor ut än vad den är tack vare schweiziska kanter och andra optiska trick. I gengäld verkar den nästan sväva ovanför ytan.

När den öppnas avslöjas ett hyfsat tangentbord med omkopplingsbar RGB-belysning. Ovanför detta finns ett intressant triangelmönster som inte verkar ha någon funktion alls. I övrigt fångar en stor O17-skrift vår uppmärksamhet. Den bärbara datorn står säkert på stora gummifötter på undersidan.

Displaylocket och basens undersida är tillverkade av plast. Den bärbara datorns ovansida med tangentbordet och pekplattan är tillverkad av metall. En positiv aspekt här är att handflatorna förblir svala även vid tung belastning. Trots sin storlek kan skärmen öppnas upp till 150° med en hand. HP har gjort ett bra jobb med gångjärnen eftersom skärmens läge förblir stabilt även när den bärbara datorn utsätts för skakningar.

HP:s bärbara dator har en storlek och vikt som är typisk för bärbara speldatorer. Tillsammans väger den bärbara datorn och nätadaptern mer än 4 kg. I bästa fall ser den lite smalare ut än många av sina rivaler

Anslutningsmöjligheterna på HP:s bärbara dator är relativt normala för spelare, även om en SD-kortläsare med god hastighet överraskade oss här. Alla portar är placerade på sidorna av den bärbara datorn. Om du ansluter en trådbunden mus eller annan hårdvara på höger sida bör du dock vara försiktig så att du inte blockerar ventilationsöppningen.

HP Omen 17 använder MediaTek MT7921 för trådlös kommunikation. Den här modulen stöder WLAN 6 och Bluetooth 5.2. I kombination med Netgear Nighthawk AX12 är hastigheterna för dataöverföring tyvärr inte lika höga som för andra bärbara datorer. Men å andra sidan är över 880 MBit/s i mottagnings- och sändningsriktningen inte heller någon dålig hastighet. Placeringen av WLAN-modulen kan bli problematisk i längden, eftersom den är placerad under värmerören mellan kylaren och grafikkretsen. Den är till och med fäst där med en självhäftande pad, så den kan bli ganska varm under användning. I det långa loppet kan detta också leda till anslutningsproblem.

Underhåll

HP Omen 17 är relativt lätt att öppna och det finns många modulära komponenter inuti. En gratis NVMe SSD-plats finns här. En motsvarande värmespridare och en termisk kudde har redan förinstallerats. Det kan dock vara problematiskt att byta ut WLAN-modulen. Som tidigare nämnts ligger den under värmerören och hålls på plats av en självhäftande pad.

Inmatningsenheter - RGB-tangentbord

Tangentbord

En bärbar dator på 17 tum har plats för ett komplett tangentbord, men HP har utelämnat Numpad här för att få mer plats för piltangenterna och vissa makrotangenter (P1 till P6) och för att ge tangentblocken bra avstånd. Det RGB-belysta tangentbordet är mycket haptiskt tilltalande tack vare ett tydligt tangentavstånd på över en millimeter och skarp återkoppling. För européer som är vana vid ISO-layout kan tangentbordets ANSI-layout vara ganska ovanlig. Å andra sidan bör spelare som huvudsakligen använder mekaniska tangentbord snabbt känna sig hemma här.

Bland annat WASD-tangenterna kan lyftas fram visuellt med de fyra kontrollerbara områdena i RGB-belysningen. Gamers kommer sannolikt att bli nöjda med detta. Tangentbordets belysning och tilldelningen av makrotangenterna kan styras via Omen Center. Statiska och dynamiska lägen finns tillgängliga för belysningen. En annan intressant aspekt är att färgen och ljusstyrkan hos tangentbordsbelysningen kan anpassas till skärmens innehåll. Detta resulterar i en effekt som påminner något om Ambilight-systemet. Denna funktion är endast tillgänglig i Light Studio.

HP Omen 17:s IPS-skärm med Full HD-upplösning och en ljusstyrka på bara 302 cd/m² ligger mer i medelklassen. Tack vare den matta ytan finns det åtminstone inga reflektioner som annars skulle störa spelupplevelsen. Vi fastställde kontrastförhållandet till endast 892:1. Svartvärdet är relativt högt med 0,36 cd/m².

Inga ljushetsskillnader på skärmen är synliga med blotta ögat. Endast kameran kan upptäcka tydliga halos på skärmen, om än först efter lång exponering.

Skärmens svarstider motsvarar inte riktigt vad vi förväntar oss av en bärbar dator för spel. Särskilt krävande spelare kommer sannolikt att märka tydliga streck vid snabba bildväxlingar.

Konkurrerande bärbara gamingdatorer klarar sig dock inte bättre här. BådeAsus TUF Gaming och Acer Nitro 5 använder skärmar i sina 17-tumsvarianter som oftast har betydligt sämre värden.

Display Response Times

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

The display backlight flickers at 100 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 50 % and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting.

The frequency of 100 Hz is very low, so the flickering may cause eyestrain and headaches after extended use.

In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 17933 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 3846000) Hz was measured.

Prestanda - Bärbar HP-dator med grafikprestanda något över genomsnittet

Hårdvaran i HP Omen 17 är helt klart utformad för PC-spel. Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti och Intel Core i7 12700H säkerställer en stark prestanda här. Processorn stöds av 16 GB DDR5-arbetsminne. NVMe-SSD:n från Western Digital är också tillräckligt stor för att rymma några spel med 1 TB.

HP Omen 17:s strömstyrning har hållits relativt enkel, men kan också anpassas kraftigt. profilen Balanced valdes för benchmarks inom områdena systemprestanda, CPU-prestanda, DPC-latens och SSD-prestanda. Tester av GPU-prestanda och spelande utfördes i läget Performance . Olika prestandalägen testades också för volym- och energimätningar.

I Balanced- och Performance-läget är CPU:s boost-effekt 100 watt och GPU:ns 135 watt. I Balanced-läget arbetar processorn konstant på cirka 45 watt och i Performance-läget på cirka 75 watt.

Intel Core i7-12700Htillhör de avancerade chipsen i den nuvarande Alder Lake-generationen och består av sex prestandakärnor och åtta effektivitetskärnor för totalt 20 trådar. I prestandaläget ligger PL1 med 75 watt långt över de vanliga värdena på 45 watt. Vid testning, med 25 körningar av riktmärket Cinebench R15, visar logganalysen tydligt olika resultat för de olika prestandaprofilerna och batteriläget. I7 klarar fyra körningar i rad på Boost-effekt (så länge prestandaläget är aktiverat) innan den snabbt faller till 75 watt kontinuerlig effekt. Balanserat läge tillåter en kontinuerlig uteffekt på 45 watt, vilket innebär att prestandaläget uppnår 490 poäng mer. PL1 och PL2 är starkt begränsade i batteriläget. Här har processorn endast 35 respektive 25 watt till sitt förfogande.

Grafikkort

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Tiär ett av de starkaste grafikkorten. Lyckligtvis beror dess prestanda knappast på den valda prestandaprofilen i den bärbara HP-datorn. Därför resulterar både Balanced- och Performance-läget alltid i utmärkta resultat i riktmärkena i 3DMark. Skillnaden här är mindre än 600 poäng. Även om man manuellt ställer in fläktarna på högsta nivå ökar knappast prestandan. När vi tittar på loggarna märker vi att Balanced-läget endast begränsar grafikkortets prestanda med cirka 10 watt vid kortvarig belastning i riktmärket Time Spy. Trots detta stiger temperaturerna för Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070 Ti i HP Omen 17 lite mer här.

Vi var dock tvungna att byta ut vår första recensionsenhet på grund av ett fel i Nvidias grafikprocessor. Av oförklarliga skäl sköt hotspot-temperaturerna för RTX 3070 Ti upp så högt i den första HP Omen 17 att den bara kunde köras på cirka 40 watt utan att överhettas. Samtidigt var dGPU:ns medeltemperaturer endast 75 °C.

På batteridrift presterar den bärbara speldatorn fortfarande bra. Mer än 30 FPS ska vara möjligt för spel i Full HD i ett stort antal spel.

Spelprestanda

HP Omen 17 uppnår mer än 100 FPS i de flesta spelbenchmarks. Endast ett fåtal bärbara datorer medNvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Tilevererar fler FPS här. Full HD-spel är alltså möjligt utan problem i alla testade spel även med de högsta grafikinställningarna.

Även med ray tracing aktiverat lyckas den bärbara datorn fortfarande leverera över 60 FPS i titlar som Ghostwire Tokyo och Metro Exodus.

När HP Omen är inställd på balanserat läge är den ibland nästan tyst. Men så snart mer än basbelastningen krävs ökar den bärbara datorns volym från ett klart hörbart område till irriterande områden. För det mesta är den bärbara datorn, precis som många bärbara speldatorer, relativt högljudd. HP har ställt in fläktkurvorna på ett sådant sätt att högre värden kommer in ganska tidigt. Det fanns en tid då Bang & Olufsen stod för ljud och design på högsta nivå. Detta är dock inte fallet i HP:s bärbara dator. Ljudprofilen för HP Omen 17 är burkig och överdriven i de höga tonerna och kraftlös i de låga tonerna. Om de högljudda fläktarna inte får dig att sätta på dig hörlurar kan du göra det på grund av högtalarna. Lyckligtvis har den bärbara datorn tillräckligt med anslutningsalternativ för externa ljudutgångar med Bluetooth, 3,5 mm jack och USB-C.

Tack vare Hybrid Mode, där Intel Core i7:s iGPU tar på sig det mesta av arbetet, visar sig den bärbara speldatorn vara ekonomisk. Strömförbrukningen vid tomgång är ganska låg. Batteritid

Batteritiden är vanligtvis inte den viktigaste kompetensen hos bärbara datorer för spel. Men HP Omen 17 ger hyggliga värden här. Fem till sex timmar i testet för Wi-Fi-webbsurfing vittnar om att den lämpar sig för vardaglig användning utanför spelandet. Körtiderna minskar dock betydligt vid full belastning. Eftersom den bärbara datorn fortfarande förser processorn och dGPU:n med ganska mycket ström i batteriläge är spel bara möjligt i lite mer än en timme.

HP Omen 17 är en ganska diskret bärbar dator för spel. En materialkombination av plast och metall ger höljet en hög stabilitet och en högkvalitativ ytkänsla. Den ospectakulära designen är tilltalande och är knappast en indikation på den bärbara datorns höga prestandapotential. Särskilt Intel Core i7-12700H kan återigen prestera bra. Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti från Nvidia är också stark i den bärbara speldatorn. Krävande spel körs smidigt i Full HD-upplösning

HP Omen 17 är en bra spellaptop som till viss del levererar utmärkt prestanda. Men även på den här prestandanivån finns det billigare alternativ.

HP Omen 17:s moderna anslutningsmöjligheter med Thunderbolt 4 och de många alternativen för att ansluta externa skärmar är också glädjande. Alla portar är placerade på sidorna och är lättare att nå än i många andra bärbara speldatorer

Skärmen på den bärbara gamingdatorn visar sig vara lite svag. Färgrumstäckning och svarstider visar inte särskilt bra värden här. Man kan leva med den bärbara datorns volym: den är ganska hög i Performance-läget, men den balanserade prestandaprofilen ger också tillräcklig kraft för många spel

De som letar efter en bärbar dator för spel av hög kvalitet kommer att hitta den i HP Omen 17. Utmärkt utförande möter en ädel design här. HP Omen 17 är dock också relativt dyr. Mycket billigare rivaler, som t.ex Acer Nitro 5, har nästan samma prestandavärden. HP Omen 16 är också lite billigare och mindre.

Pris och tillgänglighet

Användare rekommenderas att kontrollera direkt via HP:s officiella webbplats för den plats där de befinner sig, eftersom HP inte alltid erbjuder identiska konfigurationer i varje region. På UK, Frankrike och Indienhittade vi till exempel bara den starkare varianten med 32 GB RAM, en 2 TB SDD och en GeForce RTX 3080 Ti för 2 799,98 £, 3 799,00 € respektive ₹309 999 ₹309 999 ₹. HP Omen 17 verkar dock ännu inte finnas tillgänglig i USA
