Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Lenovo ThinkPad T580 är en bra företagslaptop som hamnar en bit efter sina mindre syskon i ThinkPad T-serien.

Inmatningsenheterna säger mycket om T580. Dess inmatningsenheter är nästan lika bra som hos ThinkPad T480 och T480s. Dessutom har T580 också ett numeriskt tangentbord, vilket kommer vara användbart för många användare. Höljet på T580, som inte har ändrats särskilt mycket jämfört med föregångaren, känns aningen mer "rustikt" när det ställs bredvid andra Thinkpads som också har väldigt hög konstruktionskvalitet. Dessutom är T580 väldigt lätt att underhålla. Vidare erbjuder ThinkPad T580 massor av portar, vilka har moderniserats ytterligare tack vare att dom propretiära anslutningarna har tagits bort. T580 levererar också en märkbar ökning i prestanda jämfört med föregångaren, i huvudsak tack vare dess Intel Core i7-8550U CPU som är snabbare än genomsnittet samt versionen av Nvidia GeForce MX150 utan MaxQ. Som en toppskikts-laptop för företagsbruk har T580 ett utförligt garantipaket och många säkerhetsfunktioner - bland dessa finns det praktiska kameraöverdraget känt som ThinkShutter. Den sista positiva aspekten av T580 är Power Bridge-funktionen, som låter användaren byta ut det externa batteriet när behov uppstår. Detta ger användaren lite extra flexibilitet.

Listan över kritik börjar med skärmen: Då Lenovo tydligen fortfarande förlitar sig på undermåliga Full HD-skärmar så representerar 4K-skärmen det enda alternativet med hög kvalitet. Men i vårt tycke är skärmen på T580 inte bra nog: Ljusstyrkan är medelmåttig och färgrymdstäckningen på 90% av sRGB är inte heller så dålig. Men det är inte 100%. Ultra HD LCD-skärmen på ThinkPad P51 bevisar att Lenovo kan göra mycket bättre. UHD-skärmen på den nya EliteBook 850 G5 ska tydligen uppnå en genomsnittlig ljusstyrka på 400 cd/m². Lenovo borde göra en del förbättringar på det här området till nästa 15-tumsmodell i ThinkPad T-serien.

Vi har några klagomål när det kommer till design, och det är inte alls förvånande för oss att Lenovo har låtit designen vara i princip likadan som hos den föregående modellen. Några av våra klagomål inkluderar: Överhettning och batteritid som besviker: T580 kan inte ens klara av en batteritid på över tio timmar i vårt WiFi-test trots en batterikapacitet på 105 Wh - här borde Lenovo ha lagt mer tid och energi på att optimera energiförbrukningen. T580 drar helt enkelt för mycket kraft för en företagslaptop. Det är också synd att T580 lider av spoltjut. Till sist, prestandan hos den snabba SSD-enheten i vår recensionsenhet begränsas i onödan av en långsam PCIe-anslutning.

Trots detta rekommenderar vi ändå T580. Men den är inte lika bra som dom mindre modellerna på 14 tum såsom T480 och T480s.

Så får T580 en rekommendation? Ja, förhållandet mellan pris och prestanda för modellen som finns i Lenovos "Campus-Program" är imponerande. Men för dom som inte kvalificerar sig till Campus-programmet ser det aningen värre ut. T580 är inte på något sätt en dålig laptop. Men jämfört med andra högkvalitativa modeller på 15 tum såsom Dell XPS 15, som snart kommer finnas tillgänglig med sexkärniga processorer, så klarar sig T580 inte särskilt bra. Power Bridge-systemet kan tänkas vara en anledning till köp, då det i teorin möjliggör obegränsad batteritid. Men den höga energiförbrukningen underminerar till viss del den funktionen. T580 är en bra laptop för företagsanvändare, särskilt om du väljer att ge avkall på GeForce MX150, för utan den håller sig denna laptop betydligt svalare och tystare. Men trots det, modellerna på 14 tum såsom T480 och T480s kommer vara ett mycket bättre val för företagskunder, om det nu inte är så att du behöver det numeriska tangentbordet och skärmen på 15 tum. Men i så fall är ändå ThinkPad P51 ett bättre val för dom flesta användare.
