Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . Efter några veckor tillsammans med Lenovo Ideapad 720S-15IKB tycker vi fortfarande att dess hårdvarukonfiguration är en aning underlig, även om den är fullt rimlig. En i7-7700HQ med ett TDP reducerat till 35 watt har ett kuriosavärde, och med tanke på systemets problem med värmeregulering undrar vi om Lenovo helt enkelt har strypt processorn för att de var tvungna. Trots denna underlighet är processorns prestanda mer än tillräcklig för tunga applikationer och intensiv multitasking. Det är sällan processorn som är flaskhalsen — den minimalt strypta Max-Q versionen av Nvidia GeForce 1050 Ti får spela den rollen, i huvudsak när den renderar spel med höga hårdvarukrav.

För en enhet i den här klassen — inklusive vid direkt jämförelse med de andra bärbara datorer vi behandlat i den här recensionen — kommer det sällsynt magra utbudet av portar definitivt vara ett hinder för många intresserade köpare. Att tvinga användare att bära runt på adaptrar som behöver köpas separat är en garanterad metod för att bli av med kunder. Vi kan inte överhuvudtaget förklara avsaknaden av en separat HDMI- och/eller DisplayPort-anslutning, särskilt med tanke på att det finns gott om plats tillgängligt. Mindre viktiga nackdelar inkluderar suboptimal WLAN-mottagning och skärmbleeding som bara syns när bildmaterialet är väldigt mörkt.

Även om Lenovo Ideapad 720S-15IKB på de flesta vis är en attraktiv enhet så gör dess problematiska värmeregulering och framför allt bristen på fysiska anslutningar att vi inte riktigt känner att vi kan rekommendera den.

På plus-sidan kan vi addera: Ett nedtonat men ändå gediget och ergonomiskt hölje, uppdaterade säkerhetsfunktioner, bra skärm och sist men inte minst att systemet har en ekonomisk energiförbrukning och uppför sig tyst — för att inte tala om den rikliga batteritiden som har rejält med reserver inför framtiden. Även om vi anser att Lenovos Ideapad totalt sett är en framgång — vilket märks på vårt omdöme på 87%, bara precis under omdömet "riktigt bra" — så är det till största del avsaknaden av anslutningar som hindrar enheten från att få vårt rekommendations-sigill. Å andra sidan, om du gör det mesta trådlöst och tänker dig att du klarar dig med de portar som finns, eller inte har något emot tanken på att bära runt på extra adaptrar, så kan Ideapad ändå vara ett bra val.
