Lenovo går ett steg längre med Y900, vilket även gäller prislappen på USD $2000 (exkl. svensk moms). Medan designen är föredömlig är det nya mekaniska tangentbordet och Turbo-läget mindre bra. Tangenterna känns mjuka och ojämna, och vissa användare kanske inte uppskattar den annorlunda upplevelsen. ”Turbo Mode” innebär inga nämnvärda fördelar eller nackdelar.

En stor nackdel är däremot systemets pulserande fläkt och bristen på anpassningsbara fläktinställningar. Det kanske så småningom lappas ihop med ny mjukvara, men datorn bör inte användas i ljudkänsliga miljöer, ens med energisparinställningar. Fläktljudet i spel är något högre än de flesta andra 17-tums bärbara speldatorer, med undantag för de tunnare varianterna från MSI och Gigabyte.

I grund och botten erbjuder Y900 hög prestanda vid relativt låga temperaturer, utan CPU- eller GPU strypning. Trots det har vi svårt att hitta tillräckligt med fördelar för att rekommendera systemet istället för något billigare som GT72VR, som är enkel att underhålla och har en GPU som kan uppgraderas (MXM 3.0b).

Lenovos senaste flaggskepp i spelsegmentet är ett stort steg framåt vad gäller kvalitet och design, men den hålls tillbaka av de irriterande fläktarna, för få skärmalternativ och ett mjukt mekaniska tangentbord. Priset är dessutom på tok för högt – särskilt nu när konkurrenterna använder effektivare grafikkort från GTX 10XX-serien.
