När vi skrev omdömet var HP EliteBook 840 G5 den bästa enheten i vår ranking. Med det som utgångspunkt låter EliteBook 745 G5 med processorer från AMD riktigt lovande!

Fördelarna med EliteBook 745 G5 är i huvudsak samma som med dess Intel-motsvarighet: Den har ett tjusigt och robust metallhölje med bekväma inmatningsenheter och en väldigt ljusstark skärm. Den är utrustad med en del grundläggande portar och säkerhetsfunktioner. Precis som sin systermodell med Intel-processor så håller sig EliteBook 745 G5 även sval vid belastning, och den är helt tyst vid tomgång. Vidare kommer den med 36 månaders garanti. Men det finns också några nackdelar: SSD-enheten är egentligen inte särskilt snabb för att vara en PCIe NVMe SSD och datorn saknar helt och hållet en SD-kortläsare.

Trots en bra grund kan EliteBook 745 G5 inte nå samma poäng som EliteBook 840 G5. CPU:n från AMD är en välsignelse och en förbannelse på samma gång. Den levererar betydligt mer boost-prestanda, men efter fyra minuter går prestandan ner till samma nivå som Intel-modellen. Dess iGPU presterar definitivt bättre än Intel-modellens, men den presterar ändå betydligt lägre än den borde - den överträffar inte riktigt en dedikerad GPU. Detta beror i huvudsak på HP:s restriktiva temperaturhantering: värmekapaciteten är inte maximerad, vilket går att se på dom låga yttemperaturerna och oavsett detta så stryper HP både CPU och GPU. Energiförbrukningen i viloläge (och vid minimal belastning) är fortfarande högre än på många bärbara Intel-modeller, vilket leder till ännu kortare batteritid. Dessutom begränsar HP konfigurationsmöjligheterna i onödan. EliteBook 745 G5 har inget alternativ för en 4K-skärm (3.820 x 2.160). Till skillnad från EliteBook 840 G5 har den ingen Thunderbolt 3-port och CPU:n stryps konstant vid batteridrift. Faktum att skärmen inte når den utlovade sRGB-täckningen på 100% är också tråkigt.

Ibland är riktigt bra inte tillräckligt: Intel-modellen EliteBook 840 G5 utgör en totalt sett mycket bättre helhet i jämförelse med sin AMD-motsvarighet. 

EliteBook 745 G5 kan fortfarande rekommenderas och får omdömet "Väldigt bra". Men vi rekommenderar den bara om du kategoriskt undviker Intel-datorer. Bortsett från det borde du snarare överväga HP EliteBook 840 G5Lenovo ThinkPad T480s eller Dell Latitude 7490, beroende på vilken tillverkare, design eller vilka funktioner du föredrar. Dom har längre batteritid och om du behöver mer grafikprestanda är en laptop med en dedikerad GPU mer värd än EliteBook 745 G5.
